Wow

Working large is a whole different animal. Not only did I go through
a ton of paint, I was able to loosen up and slash the brush with 'chords'
you can't do on a smaller scale.
Painting big is funner than I thought! :)

After some discussion with an artist friend, I decided to
paint this in oils instead of sign paint. Now I'm glad I did.

I made a much larger glass palette to accommodate  the colors
and mixing area. I wanted to try colors I've heard talked
about on other blogs. I wasn't so concerned with using
a particular color palette, or a limited color palette.
I wanted to try new mixtures to see what I could get. This is
an experiment I've wanted to try. If I create a monster, well
Halloween was just here!
This painting is not finished. I wanted to post its progress
at this stage. I don't want to fiddle with it, so a few dabs
here and there and I will call it done.
I hope you like it.

I do like it! You will get a lot of use out of that fantastic glass palette. That large lips painting is sure to be admired wherever it winds up!

It looks like you're having fun! When you say big, you mean BIG! Your palette makes me want to jump right in and dip a wide brush! Looking forward to the finish of your big kiss.

Wet! Thanks! I hope so too! :)

Thanks Cyndi! Most of my large scale painting has been done in sign paint for outdoor billboards. So this was fun, because you can't handle sign paint,(or sign brushes)
the way you can handle oils, and oil painting brushes.
That bold pink is: Permanent Rose,(Quinacridone), Alizarin Crimson, Rose Madder, Cadmium Red Lt. Gold Ochre, Naples Yellow Light, and Titanium White! I don't remember the % mixture but I tested it several times till it read what you see!

Thanks Celeste! The palette needed to be big! I hope people find it interesting, and no one tags it!

Thank You Martine! I think the color you use in your paintings are wonderful!

Thanks Jane! It's good to hear that!

Thank You Susan! Yes! It was fun to paint, I just dove in and tried to paint smart!
I went from darks to lights. I blended both on the palette and the board.
I used a large flat mostly, also a palette knife.(I wore a glove and even used my fingers at one point!)

My thoughts are to let this cure, or set up. I will then make a second pass to the darks, mid tone, and high lights. Very cautiously. I dont want it to be over painted.(If that makes any sense?!)
I'll post the final painting, and where it will be hung.
Thank you all for you kind and supportive comments. This was surely a leap of faith. The best leap there is!
