The days are now getting longer, and so are the shadows.
A sign casts a shadow across the street.
With all the new snow, it's a beautiful mess.
I thought this was a bit abstract.
(Or maybe I'm just pooped from all the shoveling)

Hi Bill, I really like the cool and warm contrast you are playing within the snow...the composition also makes this a good painting. The space you have left in the middle and foreground really gives you an impression of snowy winter days! This feels like a movie. It draws the viewer right in. I love the billboards.
I like how you pulled the abstract shapes out of the scene; I'm still trying to develop my eye, and get a handle on that. Cold and desolate- quite a MN mood you have captured!
Nice absract here Bill... particularly love the transparency of the sign's (longer)shadow. The "pooped" certainly doesn't show in this nice litle winter gem!

Thanks Johnathan! I wanted to get the contrast
of light and shadow on snow.
The shadows were moving along, so this was a quick color study.(about 40 minutes)

I look for abstract in a scene as it helps me
to approach, analyze,(determine) shape, color
and temp.
When painting from a photo, sometimes you can look at it upside down and see it differently.
It's a fun way to deal with "heavy" loads.

Shadows, to me should be transparent. Even my
summer scenes, portraits or stills, I attempt
to get shadows transparent.
(I was very pooped, about 14" of wet snow..)

what is uber cool about this is that the sign shadow seems almost like a 2nd message...it is shaped like a snow shovel! It is also so interesting that a snow scene was accomplished with so many neutrals (snow is so often painted in blues) Good work!
