Well the cold weather is here, parts of Minnesota were -40 below
this morning, it has to warm up to snow!
The colder it gets, the better the sledding. Warm snow,(if there is
such a thing) is good for snowballs & snowmen. But the blades can
get stuck and you have to push yourself. When it's cold you can slide
like the dickens! And it's fun!

wow what a painting! My first thought is how is that little kid out at night..where are his parents?! My 2nd thought is ---how magical..he's out at night.... without his parents! It's really beautifully done..looks like a dream.
Thank you Celeste! I grew up in a fairly small town, everyone would slide past dark. There were some hills by the lake we all went to. If we could, we would slide onto the lake.
The hockey rink was also a night thing! (I don't think anyones parents wanted to go sledding, day or night)
This is a lovely, evocative painting, Bill -great mood, sense of light, and restrained color. What's the size of this gem?
Lately I think I'm focusing too much on the technical side of painting- so it's always a single piece of fruit, painted from life alla prima with the light coming from the left etc. But I don't want to lose those aspects of art that really elevate it- hard to keep that balance.
Thanks Judy! This was painted on 11x14 gesso'd
board. It was freshly painted, so to photograph it without glare was difficult. Some colors were washed out,(this piece looks better,I think, than the photo)
You can't focus too much on the academics, but
to break away and have fun in the "play ground"
with art is always a ball game! Aloha!
Bill, what an inspiration you are!! I'm serious, can I buy this painting? I love the snow too but am too old to deal with it today. This painting could be one of my sons when they were very young. On that perfect snowy night in Indiana, their dad and me (sometimes, just us and sometimes, all of us) went to a nearby municipal golf course sledding. We had so much fun and there was an awe about doing that. You've captured it in your painting and I would be honored if you would sell it to me. Please be kind and e-mail me with a price. Your inspiration is sending me into the studio right now and paint. . . . Nora
Wow Nora, thank you! What a nice thing to say!
The paint is still wet, but I will e-mail you. Now I'm inspired! Thanks!:)
Bill, the painting is sold! Send me your address so I can mail the check and many, many thanks to you . . . Nora
WOW!! I love this Dad!! Nora is lucky to have this painting , Thankyou Nora :)
I love the mood of this painting and can totally relate to the 'old' days when we'd be out at night in the snow. A neighbor built an ice rink and we'd skate at night.
Congrats on the sale Bill and I applaud you for keepin' on keepin' on.
Hey Bill- it's me again; you've motivated me to paint something more heartfelt than my usual exercises. When you get a chance take a gander at it on my blog- it ain't a piece of fruit. Let's keep doing the trip in MN!
good painting Bill, I can feel the cold of the night.

What a lovely and fairytale -like painting.
Well thank you so much Jane!
Some of the things in life almost seem like a fairytale, maybe they are. Some of the fairytales seem like real life,(maybe they are)
Being able to dream is a workout for the creative mind! Painting those dreams are my fairytale! did that make any sense?
